I ended up doing the same thing.  I created a seperate message queue
for printer messages only.  I could not revoke the Assist menu due to
the crankiness of our users.  Thanks for the reply!

What I've done is create another message queue just for printer messges.
They all go there, and users can answer messages. I've also revoked public
update authority from message queue QSYSOPR. Messages can be added, but not
modified or deleted. It's been working fine for a year or so now.
