I still have a copy of the December 1988 Computer Decisions magazine which has the cover story 'Time Bomb! The Story Behind The Texas Virus Trial'. Quoted from the article. "Three years ago (1985), Donald Gene Burleson was a highly regarded programmer at a large brokerage and insurance firm. Today, he stands convicted as a felon following what has been called the country's first 'computer virus' trial. Here is the inside story of events leading to his prosecution and conviction as a computer saboteur." It tells of a Sys/38 developer who had QSECOFR rights and had been fired. Seem the first problems were that about half (160,000) of the company sales commissions records had been randomly deleted. Next they hit a commonly used application menu option would power down the system. It seemed that an number of 'trip wires and time bombs' had been planted. The damage was so bad that they had to do a full restore from a backup, including the OS. --- Douglas Hart Sr. Consulting Technical Analyst mailto:dah6696@goulds1.com +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
