The PC programming needs can be drastically reduced by getting ActiveX
objects like http://www.cm-inc.com/AS400ole/

Since I author this set of objects I am interested in how it might be
integrated into Notes. I am currently using it in many Visual Basic, VBA
macro and VBScript applications but have not had any experiences with
Notes yet.
