In principle, to rollback effects of CUM tape, you need to restore SLIC,
operating system and LPPs.
Steps to do it:
- IPL from backup tape
- restore LIC from standalone utilities screen
- on next IPL install operating system from backup tape
- when IPL'ed to operating ystem menu, restore *IBM libraries
You may need also to restore folders (QDLS) and IFS directories (other than
QSYS.LIB and QDLS), because some LPPs keep part of their data in these
places.
Depending on what kind of PTFs were applied recently, there is a chance
that you will also need to restore QUSRSYS.

It could be possible, that only two first steps will be enough for you -
restoring LIC and install operating system (which will basically restore
everything in QSYS). But it's difficult to guarantee that your system will
be in consistent state after such "partial" restore - it really requires
careful planning.

You may safely do what is called "restore entire system", if you have "save
entire system" tape. It's rather straightforward, but it will take a lot of
time.

In any case, all steps are described in detail in "Backup and Recovery
Guide".

Another approach will be to get a list of all PTFs on CUM CD (shipped on CD
itself), analyze it to separate PTFs related to database and query support,
and start removing them (RMVPTF) on by one. Every time you will be
guaranteed to have a consistent system, but this will take awhile.

Subject: Restore system

I need some rather immediate advice. We just installed a CUM PTF tape
this weekend and now we have a program that won't run. We think it's
because of the CUM tape but IBM doesn't. Against IBM's advice, I'd like
to restore the operating system from a system backup I did just prior to
installing the CUM PTF tape.

Could someone give me instructions on how to do this? I'd appreciate an
e-mail or direct call if possible. Because this is against IBM's
advice, they won't help me except through ConsultLine and $$$$.

The program that's bombing is an embedded SQL ILERPG program and it's a
part of our MRP run, so it's critical we get this working again.

Thanks,
Dave Leland
