Before doing VRYCFG you may add 'G' reply to the message to system reply
list.
Don't forget to CHGJOB INQMSGRPY(*SYSRPYL).

My original question wasn't too clear on the circumstances under which I
want to force the ENDSBS and/or VARYOFF.

What's happening is that I have some fixed routines that run unattended
during off-peak times.  About 1/2 hour before it runs I warn the users
to get off the system.  Inevitably, someone in the "offices" does not
get off they system.  Either they ignore the message or can't seem to
understand that simply turning your PC off does not immediately remove
you from the 400.  This problem means that, when my END of VRY comes
along, they halt and message because there's still an active job in the
system.

I know I can do a routine that checks for active jobs but thought a
method to force the correct reponse to the message might be a quicker
and more adaptable way to go.
