DTAQs for client/server date back to 1985 or 1986 on the System/38 and
CPF.  They were available via PRPQ and initially supported IBM's teller
terminal application for the banking industry.

     As I recall, most of the client server development I saw at the 
     time was based around DTAQs and proprietary interfaces. ODBC was 
     sort of the new kid on the block, but it was a supported interface 
     since the V2R3 days. DDM does not, AFAIK, extend to PC client 
     interface.
