     Eric,

Since you are planning on translating OPM RPGIII, there's a few
     things to plan.

     1) Activation groups -- I'd suggest using the default activation
group parm on the CRTBNDRPG command. (That's DFTACTGRP(*YES)) This
will make your RPGIV programs run in the same activation group as
     standard OPM programs.

     2) Debugging views -- This compiler option can really affect object
size. Depending on your environment, you may be able to get by with
*STMT or *SOURCE. *LIST makes BIG objects, but will allow debugging
on production systems where source is not available.

     3) Compile optimization -- Can improve performance and reduce
     object size, but be careful.....

In general, you probably won't see any change in response time. A
lot of your choices are going to depend on your production
environment and support needs. Start off with DFTACTGRP(*YES) and
the potential for runtime problems will be significantly reduced.

     Regards

Since few monthes we plane to translate ours old RPG III programs to RPGIV,
but ....

    - What about performance, especially for interactive programs, do they
need more memorie ?
    - What about disk space (objets and sources) ?
    - Other problems ????

Do anybody have experience on it ?

Thanks,

Eric Panissard from French Polynesia
