Will, We migrated from VSE about 5+ years ago. We 'migrated' our software as is to the AS/400 using a product called KIKS from ATI in Chicago. COBOL came over fairly clean. Of course CICS and JCL did not. KIKS using an 'interface' to emulate CICS functions. Of course you now have CICS/400. All in all things went pretty smooth in a relatively short timeframe. We even had some DL1 stuff. Being an AS/400 advocate I always say it was a better move. Simplicity, integration, functionality, and all that garbage. There are differences. I believe them all to be minor in nature but OS/400 will not do everything the same way you do and in the same manner. ATI has assisted many customers in doing this. I also know of no one that has not completed it. If so, I would believe the issues are not technical in nature but more in the realm of project control and proper expectations. You can also use some of your existing equipment (terminals and printers) but I would not recommend it. As part of our move we replaced all peripherals. Respectfully Mike Hi all, I am the Director of an IBM VSE data center. We have been operating with VSE (mainframe operating system) for 25 years. Given the growing capability/complexity of VSE and our relative marginal growth (k12 education) I have been considering the possibility of conversion to another platform. I would like to know if anyone else out there listening has specifically made the conversion from VSE to AS/400 or know someone who tried and gave up. We currently write all of our own applications in COBOL with a little bit of Assembler for batch and interactive (CICS). Moving to AS/400 would give us the opportunity to buy packaged software when appropriate and move to a less complicated environment?
