Bradley, >We recently upgraded our developement machine from a CISC (V3R2) to RISC >(V4R2). We have been noticing that it seems to be taking a lot longer >to restore save files onto our CISC based production machines. This is to be expected if the restore contains any program/module/etc type objects. These must be retranslated from RISC to CISC. This process takes somewhat less time than just recompiling the source on the CISC machine (alledgedly around 85% of the compile time). Specifying a target release of V3R2 does not make the RISC compiler output object code with the CISC instruction stream. It does ensure the program is restorable to a V3R2 environment. To skip the object conversion process during the restore, check out the FRCOBJCVN() keyword help text on the restore object command. This lets you delay the conversion until a later time. Depending on your environment, you may want to do this then either let the object(s) convert upon first use, or use the STROBJCVN command to batch convert the objects.
