Loyd,

I think QDCRCFGS API presents you determination of job that is using
line(device).
See SC41-4801 AS/400 Advanced Series System API Reference Version 3
 
If I am in this case, I will varry off line and add logic that handle 
recovery from line error(ex. read timeout,etc) to program that is 
using line. Do not forget handling message that is send to QSYSOPR 
by line error.
