Just a few observations on Network Stations:

I put a few in for a customer who "had" to have some.. right after
announcement...

1. Support did not exist
2. Manuals changed so often, it was recommended to download new one
every month...
3. WinCenter WAS the reason for this purchase !!!!!

One little problem, WinCenter in it's shipped version DID NOT support
IBM Network Stations.... WinCenter support folks were just as
surprised
as anybody that IBM had told folks that this was THE product....
Those
same folks were the ones that built the network stations for
IBM......

4. The Network Station Manager on the 400 did change weekly in the early
days...

5. The basic Network Stations as shipped, didn't have enough memory to
run
Network Station Manager, which you really needed to config
stations....

6. IF you only need emulation, they work fine.... if you can EVER get
all
the parts and pieces installed(MANY PTF'S)

7. After 60 days, we had 5 stations up and running... using WinCenter
Pro to access W/95 apps and 5250 emualtion to access 400....

8. After all that, I didn't have the nerve to suggest that we use this
   mess to access the web.........

The customer had spent over 10,000 for ethernet adapater for 400, NT
Server,
network stations, cat 5 cabling, hubs, fiber links between
building,etc,etc

I had HIGH hopes for this product, but, after that ordeal, I was ashamed
to
ever go back to this customers business....

IBM had a fine idea... they just forgot to finish the product before
shipping....
and they forgot to put anybody in charge that division.....

This may explain why they were recently giving these away if you bought
a
new 400........ really a shame for all concerned.........
