You may want to consider Web-based access to save on the telcom costs,
and possibly initial hardware costs as well. The only issue will relate
to security for your West Coast-based system, but nothing is more secure
on the Web than an AS/400, provided you're following solid operating
procedures with regard to system security.

You can use IBM's built-in http server if you're on a newer box, or
I/NET provides a good secured solution as well. I/NET also developed
Webulator, which translates the AS/400 data stream to HTML for
application access via a browser. I think IBM has embraced I/NET's
Webulator over their own similar product.

I'm not affiliated with IBM or I/NET.

Subject: Setting up new office to connect to AS/400

I need some ideas on setting up a new (small 3-4 person) office
in the UK to
connect into our AS/400 on the West Coast of the USA. The new
office will
be running on PC(s) with Win 95 and Client Access. There will
also be one
printer server there as well. I was looking at the following
solution:

        1. 32-56kb phone line
        2. Asnyc mutiplexer
        3. Sync modem
        4. Stat MUX
        5. RS232 connections to the PC's and AS/400

Any better ideas would be appreciated! As always, cost is a
factor.
