Alan,

   Whenever I'm having this type of problem, I take the modem to a PC and
use a comm or winsock program (like Trumpet) to call the ISP.  You can see
if you are connecting, and what kind of messages go back and forth.  If
everything looks right, it's usually something in the AS/400 line
description or the modem init string.  Just a thought.

   You need to specify *DYNAMIC for the local interface address if you get a
different IP address from your POP each time you connect, which is normally
the case with a dial-up connection.  You need to specify *DYNAMIC for the
remote address if the POP's IP address is different each time you call,
which is also usual for the larger ISPs.

  I think I can help you figure out a connection script if you can post a
transcript of your login session.  I have run into one problem I can't
solve, however; Erol's POPs don't return their IP address during login.
