I don't really see why you need the Perles. How about a frame relay
connection (can start at 56kb and scale up depending on need), CISCO
routers on both ends, and 5250 emulation cards in PCs with Ethernet
cards. Provides a solid, manageable implementation for the present and
lets you grow e-mail and other strategies on the network.
