how you can 'decompile' Queries. Be sure to prompt on it and use F10 for
all parameters. There is also the ANZQRY to tell you what might not come

Time to be a pedant: The front end for Query Management is called Query
Manager. It's part of the SQL licensed product. It provides an interface
that is very much like the Query/400 interface.

Using Query/400 as stated above is a good way to start, or even for ongoing
work. You can even get replacement variables by putting a ':' ahead of a
variable name in the 'Record Selection' option of Query/400. RTVQMQRY
converts these to '&' in front of the variable.

There are differences between Query Management and Query/400, because the
former is not a native 400 product, rather a cross-platform application
(SAA). There are probably manuals from the mainframe world. I think the QM
manuals mention some other cross-platform manuals, but I can't imagine them
doing much other than confusing things. Unless, of course, you are moving
QM queries and forms between systems.

I, too, have modified code from both MC and NEWS/400. I've also seen Buck
Calabro's effort. I especially like his help text. I've added an RDB
parameter to my version (allows running SQL on remote systems, with output
on the local one). I've also added an OVERRIDE parameter, where I can
specify member overrides. This gets around the fact that SQL knows nothing
about multiple member files.

There is a product called SQL4LESS that is a front end to Query Management.
It has some rudimentary QMFORM stuff, too. It might be good enough for you.
It's interface is similar to that of Interactive SQL. The only prompts,
though, are for field lists.
