You can execute this with STRQMQRY, which allows you to pass parameters in from CL. If a parameter is numeric, just pass the variable. If it is alpha, you will need to concatenate tic marks around it as in CHGVAR VAR(&PARMVAL) VALUE('''' *CAT &ALPHAVAR *TCAT ''''). If you're trying to run a query (IBM Query program product), you can do the same by specifying ALWQRYDFN(*YES) for the STRQMQRY command. In the query itself, declare a variable which specifies the record selection value as if it were a literal, prefixing the name with a colon(:), just as you would if you were coding an embedded SQL command. When you try to save the query, you will be prompted for the name of the record selection query. Just make something up. It is not validated, and the name will not be used. hth Pete Pete Hall peteh@inwave.com http://www.inwave.com/~peteh/ +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
