The key to the future speed is to get multiple processors working to gether, moving large blocks of memory form 1 processor to another. Instead of a file server, it would a memory server. This can be done with current technology, such as the 12 way. Why not a 1000 way processor?? The AS400 is a natural. You have 250 active jobs, you have 250 processors. ---------- > From: Simon Coulter <shc@flybynight.com.au> > To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > Subject: RE: Intel delays Merced > Date: Wednesday, June 03, 1998 7:26 AM > > Hello Neil, > > Not easily. Extending the address space to 96 bits can be done with minimal pain (as in about the > same pain as CISC to RISC); anything beyond that will be just as hard for the AS/400 as it is for lesser > systems. > > Regards, > Simon Coulter. > > //---------------------------------------------------------- > // FlyByNight Software AS/400 Technical Specialists > // Phone: +61 3 9419 0175 Mobile: +61 0411 091 400 > // Fax: +61 3 9419 0175 E-mail: shc@flybynight.com.au > // > // Windoze should not be open at Warp speed. > > > //--- forwarded letter ------------------------------------------------------- > > X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.0.1457.3) > > Date: Tue, 02 Jun 98 22:57:11 -0500 > > From: "Neil Palmer" <npalmer@NxTrend.com> > > To: "'MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com'" <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> > > Reply-To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > > Subject: RE: Intel delays Merced > > > So, if IBM gave Rochester the go-ahead we could see a 128-bit AS/400 > > before Intel gets their lowly little 64-bit chip on the market ! :-) > > > > Neil Palmer AS/400~~~~~ > > NxTrend Technology - Canada ____________ ___ ~ > > Thornhill, Ontario, Canada |OOOOOOOOOO| ________ o|__||= > > Phone: (905) 731-9000 x238 |__________|_|______|_|______) > > Cell.: (416) 565-1682 x238 oo oo oo oo OOOo=o\ > > Fax: (905) 731-9202 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > mailto:NPalmer@NxTrend.com AS/400 The Ultimate Business Server > > http://www.NxTrend.com > > +--- > | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! > | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. > | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. > | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. > | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com > +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
