Dean --

The $1175 was pretty much a bare bones system. It included the basic
machine 2 800MB disk drives, a 525MB Quarter Inch tape and a twinax W/S
controller. I tried to get a network card but it cost several times
more than the machine!!

The $7,000 is *just* for OS/400 v3r2 and doesn't include RPG, ADTS or
anything else. Plus, remember it's non-transferable (unlike v4 which
is) so it's pretty much a sunk cost.

I believe the questions about the usuability of the parts on a 170 has
been answered by others.

Sounds to me that, unless the D10 is *loaded* with COM cards, you're
better off purchasing cards for the 170 and forgetting the D10
altogether.

You might be able to save some bucks by getting used COM cards
compatible with the 170.
