I HEARTILY echo the endorsements of help/Systems products. We have been using
them since the pre-AS/400 S/38 days !

We use:

Robot which a job scheduler.
Robot Console which is a "message handler".
Robot Alert which works with Console to notify people of problems.
Ezview which lets you work with files (and drives auditors NUTS... :-))

There tech is GREAT !!

Ditto for Pathfinder/Hawkeye.

This is a "documentation" tool and a WHOLE lot more !!

Again, EXCELLENT tech support !

You might also want to look at DASD+ from Eti Solutions.

This is a "disk management and reporting tool".

SRS/Spool from LXI with lets you save spool files to tape.
