C600 434B

Hi,
When installing a CUM tape, the docs mention two IPL's one to the A-side and 
another to the B-side.
When I installed the last tape the machine IPL'd from to the A-side up to 
C900 2967 (the ptf install source), then did another IPL to the A-side up to 
C600 434B where it 'crunched' for a long time, then another, finally to the 
B-side, again with a lengthy stopover at C900 2967 and finally a signon screen.
Everything installed ok, so there are no problems (at least I haven't found 
them 
yet...).

I am just curious what the second IPL to the A-side did. I checked my manuals 
for C600 434B but could not find any reference to it.
Could anyone shed some light on this?
