OK, I'll bite. If I have 4 4Gig drives I have 16Gig total. But won't I have to eat one of those drives as overhead. Looks like you accounted for it in the 8.5Gig drives, but not the 4Gig drives. Was this simply a mistake, or is there something about the 4Gig jobbers I am missing? -Walden -----Original Message----- From: mcsnet!midrange.com!midrange-l-owner@Mcs.Net [mailto:mcsnet!midrange.com!midrange-l-owner@Mcs.Net]On Behalf Of Neil Palmer Sent: Friday, January 16, 1998 8:22 PM To: 'MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com' Subject: RE: Raid to Mirror comparison Will this be a new AS/400 or are they looking to install on an existing box ? What approx. disk capacity do they have (MB). With the new model 6xx and Sxx series you can RAID-5 the base (Load source) disks, so you could install four 4GB or 8.5GB drives and have 16GB or 25.5GB usable disk with RAID-5. With older systems mirroring was often cheaper because you had to mirror the load source drive. ... Neil Palmer AS/400~~~~~ ... NxTrend Technology - Canada ____________ ___ ~ ...
