I sent the same type note  privately to Roy.   I would however  advise him
to keep  his conversion efforts to a minimum.  That is  to a manageable
level for the time allowed to remediate the Y2K solution.  This  might mean
 leaving the code a S36 and  not converting to AS/400 native as you suggest.

There are some good automated tool suites to do the Y2K effort at
reasonable price points.   Don't think I'd try to retrofit  some of the
existing S/3X or 400 tools to  fit Y2K effort.  The payback comes in the
form of excessive  or recursive passes.   You  just  have to do the job
right as quickly as possible, and allow a year  for  the watchful eye [post
test] on production.
