As most languages throughout the years have been derived from C or have their roots there (Java, SmallTalk, C++) it might make sense for you to at least get a book on C and learn a little. Back several years, I remember books like "C for Fortran Programmers" and "C for RPG Programmers", etc. It might be easy for you to find one of these books to help you understand how these languages are structured and work so that when you have to program in anything other than RPG, you will understand what is going on. For example, I have used SCHEME, LISP, Prolog, Pascal plus many other languages to program, but have not used them in awhile. The benefit was that I can pick up a "programming language" and feel confident that I can learn that language. BTW, I am NOT a programmer, but an Engineer by trade. I know this is not what you *really* wanted to know, but learning other languages *can* and *do* help. -Bob- -- Bob Angell, Principal - Sys.
