> We have been looking into getting rid of our old WinNT 3.x Lotus > Notes Server and installing an IPCS processor on our 510. Does > anyone have an idea of what the top of the line IPCS costs? Also, $6000 for 256Mb memory (the max, and you will need it for that many users), $2700 for the server and token ring adapter. There is also the charge for ADSM client and server if you want to back up the Notes server using ADSM. If you don't, you can back up the storage space using the AS/400 side, but that will not let you selectively restore. I think the charges are less than $1000. > how much DASD should I allocate for a 250+ user Notes environment. I would think you current disk usage would be a good indicator. The IPCS is Notesmark rated for 500 users, which probably means you are actually close to the max. > Primarily, we use it for internal e-mail and some small tracking > databases. Also, what other pricing Pricing and upgrade offerings have not been announced. IBM has not yet ironed out this policy. > issues should I take into account ie. IBM services. Finally, does > anyone have input on the performance of the IPCS running Novell? I just talked to a room full of business partners today who were discussing Notes on the IPCS. From what they said, you should be able to handle this with very little difficulty. Some of the installs did experience problems, but no show stoppers. Novell seems to run fine on the IPCS but I know of no way to benchmark it for users, and I don't know of benchmarks for it that have been issued. Notes runs on OS/2 in the IPCS. That is pretty much invisible to the user, though. > Basically, we are trying to justify running Notes on the 400 as > opposed to upgrading our existing server that will cost approx $20k > for a new one. Any thoughts, suggestions, comments? I think you are making a smart move to put in in the 400. You will be ahead of the game on integration when it moves native. > Gary Feinstein Chris Rehm Mr.AS400@ibm.net How often can you afford to be unexpectedly out of business?
