>BTW, no-one has really explained why we should be so hostile to Java. >What's the problem? I don't think it is a problem with Java that generates such sentiments. More likely it is the problem with the hype machines in this industry. Bill Gates has emphatically shown us that marketing drives our industry, no matter how much we pretend we are technology driven. As a result, products like Java become part of the media circus in order to survive/succeed. So, people who have other technologies to pay attention to find themselves deluged with hype about the new product. For instance, I kept and ad for a long time which advertised hard drives, the more expensive on being "Windows 95 compatible." The ad was printed November 95, obviously to ride on the hype tidal wave. Products like the I hate Java t-shirt and Windows Sucks coffee cups are simply additional ways of capitalizing on the hype. These products give people who are tired of being told that they are incompetent unless they are part of the Divine Movement of Java. Of course, there are those who do like to participate in programming language holy wars. That's why the Usenet has .advocacy groups. ;-) >Dave Kahn - TCO, Tengiz, Kazakstan Chris Rehm Mr.AS400@ibm.net You have to ask yourself, "How often can I afford to be unexpectedly out of business?"
