Wolfgang,

It's called maintenance but if there's something wrong, it's usually a
replacement (with a brand new one!).

If they lose/change colour, start getting a smaller image, poor quality, etc.

If there's a problem, I can call service without swapping monitors to
determine if the problem is with the CPU or the monitor.  The savings in
trouble shooting time for me is invaluable.  I do spend some time to make
sure there is a problem though.  Nothing like calling service because the
power or data cable was loose.
