     I was told by my local IBM support that the necessary codes to set 
     modem to Synchronous are sent when making contact!!
     
     Below are the messages I have received, + Problem display + Line 
     description. I don't understand the 'Data-set-ready already active' 
     message.
     The LED's on the modem are all off except MR (Modem Ready) and no 
     LED's activate during a run.
