I've been wondering that myself for a long time. If I could offer: A. There would be NO general protection faults. B. When a program terminated, there would be no portion of it left in memory. C. All PC's would come with a tape drive and enough memory/disk to adequately perform their given task, rather than no tape drive and enough memory to run the OS with no consideration given to applications. D. ALL hardware would be "Plug 'n Play", regardless of platform or OS. Users wouldn't need to worry with IRQ settings or loading TSR's in the proper sequence. E. Security would be provided with all systems. You wouldn't be able to boot from drive A: without a (unique) hardware key and knowing how to select the proper function code. F. AUTOEXEC and .INI files would not be necessary. The system would adequately configure itself for base operation, and deleted software would be DELETED. G. All PC's would come with a built-in database. Just a few ideas. But then they'd be AS/400's, wouldn't they :-). IMHO, Dean Asmussen Enterprise Systems Consulting, Inc.
