One of the outsource guys they use here is in Mumbai and has a car and
driver to take him to work everyday. The driver is full time. All the
programmer's drivers play dominoes downstairs all day waiting for the
programmers to get off work. I think the company pays about $20/hr for them.

Their programming really stinks, though. They have no knowledge of JDE which
they claim to be experts at and it takes them 5 times as long to get a
program working. They are more or less "coders" with engineering degrees; no
problem solving skills AT ALL. We have to write up specs so detailed that it
would have been faster to code it ourselves!

I get a programs handed me that were written by the offshore crew and I am
told to make it work by tomorrow because of a deadline. The guys had the
code for three weeks and I have to get it to work in one day. I pull it off
for them (maybe that's why I am still here), but you gotta wonder...

For the first time I have to disagree with you Joe, a programmer in Mumbai
cost of living isn't one third of yours. It is much less. When I worked for
Morgan Chase, we had a call center in Mumbai and some of their people(managers
and supervisors) came to Florida for training. After spending several weeks
with them I can guarantee that your cost of living is probably closer to 8-10
times as much. talk about not having a level playing field.
