In my experience looking for midrange developer
positions I have encountered recruiting companies that
are looking an extensive laundry list of
qualifications in one person, including system
administration, operations, .Net, etc. They are
unwilling to approach the client company with a
candidate that has a lot of the qualifications but not
all of them. So a lot of potentionally good
candidates can't even get a foot in the door. (And a
reason I don't respond to many of the jobs posted on
this site.)

I understand budget constraints (trying to get an
everything-in-one person) but at some point these
client companies should realize they might have to
scale back their expectations in order get some
candidates in the door. And they should communicate
this to the recruiters.

In our search for System i COBOL programmers, my
company is having to retool mainframe programmers to
the System i with mixed results.

it is hard to find
seasoned ISeries people who can handle large systems
and large scale
projects. When we go looking, the prospects are
slim."
