On-call may scare them - but many of the midrange folks I know _love_ the jack-of-all-trades thing. I really don't know. Maybe it is a location issue - all the programmers are in So-Cal and the jobs in the Mid-West? Most of us midrangers are kinda settled in our ways and not looking to uproot the family etc. perhaps that plays into it. I really would like to see IBM take a close look at the situation. I'm rather afraid that their college efforts may all be for naught. Jon Paris Partner400 www.Partner400.com

Not "cheap". Salary is pretty average I'd say. Could be the "on call" scaring them off. Or maybe that we are a small staff so the individual has to be a jack of all trades (not just a coder or an analyst, etc.).
