My guess is they were removed at the order of the same IBM executive who concocted the "no more system state" policy. The campaign to redact internals info that started during the S/38 days now seems to be shifting into hyper-drive.

The silly thing is that they think it will work. How long do you suppose it will 'clever' people to work around whatever restriction IBM puts in place?

I can't even find the Beyond Technology stuff archived anywhere. Anyone recall the URL of a site that had the purpose of archiving everything on the net?

Reminds me of the Beatles movie "Yellow Submarine" -- the cartoon "sucker" monster with the trombone nose who sucks up every thing in sight, then notices his own tail and sucks himself up into nothingness.

S38/AS400/iSeries/i5 seems destined for the same fate.

I'm inclined to agree. I've said as much in previous posts (e.g., http://archive.midrange.com/mi400/200106/msg00016.html). It's very sad but all related to chasing services dollars and taking the easy path of selling the customer what the customer seems to want rather than doing the extra work to sell the customer what they need.
