Thanks, Phil.  Appreciate the advice and testing idea.  Have not much hope
that this is an avenue to pursue much longer.

I have tried this a while (year or two) ago, (Leif might remember FILEATTR
that I sent to him) getting & changing them isn't the problem, what is the
problem is that they don't seem to have any effect - there must be something
else somewhere else too.

Once you set them, a good test is to see if DFU or SEU will open them, the
IBM ones that are 'locked' down won't open with DFU, SEU, DBU, etc, etc.
