I have also tried using Leifs compression function to compress a savf and
although the compression works very well, there is a slight problem.
The resulting compressed, and eventual decompressed, files are physical
files which (this is where I may be wrong) cannot be changed back/converted
into a savf.

Thus, despite the excellent compression achieved, the result, I found, was
not useful as the contents of the original savf cannot be restored again.

Does anybody know if it is possible to either change a physical file into a
savf, or write a savf directly during decompression? or is this not
possible altogether.

Thanks in advance
Bruce

I was trying to see if I can compress save files to a size smaller that a
save file. First is anyone has tried this I will not try it otherwise I
will try.

I was looking a leif book and I was trying to read a save file and got a
message that the length was too long. It said save files need to be 528. I
was reading chapter 12 on compression.

The statement it had a problem with

CALLX   .SEPT(OPEN-ENTRY), OPEN-I, * ;

I do not see where the length of this file is set at all.

Any suggestions?

Harry
