Hi Richard,

Unfortunately I have not been in the MAPICS/Infor software for roughly 6
years now so I'm really rusty. However there is a Cross Application Support
Technical Reference Guide that may help you. When I worked for MAPICS/Infor
I used to have a query I wrote to pull that information into a file, but I
no longer have that query. Here is a brief list of the files that may
contain the information you are looking for:

MNUMST - Menu master file. Defines the application menus to CAS & is used
to properly show & process the application menus.
MNUOPT - Menu options definition file. Contains records that you specify
which tasks defined for the application appear on the menus as defined in
the MNUMST file. Used to show and process the application menus.
MNTXFILE- Personal menu definition master file. Contains authorized menu
options by user information.
MZBRREP - User/task cross-reference. Contains user authority-to-task
information.
MZC2REP - Process group. Defines group codes by application & if a group is
active.
MZD6CPP - User/security area cross-reference. Defines user authority to
security areas.
MZDRREP - Security area file. Defines security areas used by MAPICS.
Contains one record for each security are.
MZDSCPP - Security area/task cross-reference. Contains one record for each
task assigned to a security area. Used to connect a task to a security
area.
MZF0REP - User file. Contains user ID, name, maximum group jobs allowed,
preferred date format. Language ID, and user group flag.
MZGUCPP - User security. Defines the startup menu for a user.
MZGUCPS0- User Security. Contains user ID and any required startup menu.
MZH0CPP - User/data security group cross-reference. Defines the data
security groups to which a user is authorized.
TSKDEF - Task Definition file. Contains one record for each MAPICS task.
Records contain information such as call method, description, menu
description, ID, and owner.
USRGRP - User/group cross-reference file. Contains data to associate a
user with one or more group profiles.

Please refer to the Cross Application Support Technical Reference Guide for
the release level implemented on your system. I may have missed a file you
may need and you will need to have someone else here on the board with
access to the files to help you with the relationships. Sorry I can't help
more, but my recollection is limited since it has been so long.

Hope this helps some,
Paola Groeber

Hi Paula,

Thanks for taking the time to explain the security to me. It is
already
set up, I just need to extract the menus/options/program name that a user or

users have access to which will be sent to another system to evaluate for
inconsistencies. What I need is the name(s) of the file(s) that I should
query
for this information. Could you give me the names of the files that I
should be
looking at?

Thanks again.

Warmest Regards,

Richard Reeve

Richard,

Look in the Cross Application Support User's Guide, Security Maintenance.
You will need to set up Group security first before you can set up User's
menu options. It is double to work to control what menu options are visible
when a user logs in or you can simply control if they can open a list menu
option under the groups.

I suggest you create a new user, then experiment with turning on and off
some of the menu options under groups. Log in as that user and see what
you can and cannot do after 'reading' the Security Maintenance section in
this User's Guide. Remember to do things in small steps or you could affect
your users more than you originally intended.

Once you understand how the security works, it really is not that
complicated, but structured.

Good luck,
Paola Groeber

Dale,

I appreciate your guidance. Can you tell me what file I need to look
at to
get the user/menu/options authorized. The file that I am populating has the

menu, user, option, and description of the option. Also, is there any
documentation on Mapics security that is available to the public?

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it.

Warmest Regards,

Richard Reeve

Richard,

I handled that by using XA's Personal Menus. All the user got on their
screens
was what they were allowed to use. That, and eliminating command line
access,
is VERY effective at handling green screen authority.

Just a suggestion!!! :)

Sent from my iPhone, sorry about the typos!

Greg,

Please forgive my ineptness where Mapics is concerned. What I'm task
at
doing is producing a file that contains a specific users authorized menus
and
all authorized options on that menu(s). Are you telling me that Cross
Apps/Maintenance-Change/Security Maintenance/Generate
Reports capable of doing this (producing a file rather than a report)? If
not,

can you give me a little guidance as to which files I should be looking
at?

Thanks.

Why not use Cross Apps/Maintenance-Change/Security Maintenance/Generate
Reports
Available in XAR4 --- should be in later versions too.

All,

I have been tasked with writing a connector to list the
menus/options that each user within Mapics is authorized to. Can anyone
point me in the right direction as far as which files to use to retrieve
this information?

Thanks so much.

Warmest Regards,

Richard Reeve
