I have found that just about any job can be automated if you know how to determine the *pgm that mapics executes and what you need to manipulate in the LDA to fill in the desired parameters. Just have a scheduler or robot job is not enough for most jobs to execute properly as screen data is passed to executing job. Although we are not running CRP, we have automated IM month end closes, PCC batch updates and closes, etc without to much trouble and feel I could help in giving you pointers if you so desire. -----Original Message----- From: mapics-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mapics-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of mapics-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, February 13, 2007 1:00 PM To: mapics-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: MAPICS-L Digest, Vol 5, Issue 20 Send MAPICS-L mailing list submissions to mapics-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/mapics-l or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to mapics-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx You can reach the person managing the list at mapics-l-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxx When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of MAPICS-L digest..." We currently automate thinks like PO printing, Invoicing, Pick List Printing, Backup execution w/ pre and post task, MRP, etc with the Robot software and no custom programming. It is unlikely that you couldn't do what you are looking to with Replay since it is a simple macro recorder. You need to get ROBOT if you want to automate an awful lot of MAPICS jobs. I wish Infor could put the resources into letting us just load request files or LDA or whatever and run everything out of job scheduler, but they haven't yet, and I doubt they will. I think Phil only gets so much resources! There's been a number of things we've bought over time that paid for themselves MANY times over (our Unifier fax server, LaserVault for optical storage of reports and such, and more), but ROBOT is an absolute essential for us. My night shift operator retired about 10 years ago, and we bought ROBOT to replace her. It couldn't do everything she did, but it sure made it possible to keep things going! It's a great package. There is an local program interface to System-Link that allows you to submit a request without need to know anything about connecting to System-Link. You build your XML request and pass it to the LPI. We had Robot for a long time and about two years ago replaced it with RevSheduler. It does the same functionality as ROBOT, but for a lot less cost and it has better security for environments you can create. Something to look into if you plan are required to justify spending $ for managements approval.
