RE: excel to as400

Alan, By doing this does this allow users to key data into the spreadsheet.  Or 
do you have them change the extension from csv to xls and then you change it 
back before you load back to the 400
   
  Maybe I should clarify what we are trying to do. We are creating a spread 
sheet with sales history. Then we are asking reps to contact customer and ask 
what the are forecasting for the coming year. The reps enter this data on 
spreadsheet. We then want to get this info back on the 400 and do some 
programming type stuff..
   
  Eventually this function of loading to excel and getting data back to 400 
will be turned over to a non-programming person (We Hope). So I would like this 
to be painless as possible..
  Click on the data transfers that I have created and it just runs.

I export the data to CSV or tab delimitated files for transferring to and from 
the 400, this gets around the problem of Excel reformatting fields which appear 
numeric but should really be text (our component parts are, for example 
"755.50", so this happens frequently). If the problem is the users incorrectly 
entering the data, Excel has functions for data validation and worksheet 
protection that may help you, search for them in the help files.

Morning everyone. 

I am trying to take an excel spreadsheet that I initially created from the 400 
with data. Some data was keyed inot columns that I provided. When I try to 
transfer the spreadsheets back to the 400 I am getting errors that data in this 
field is incorrect or does not match the PC data type. I think what has 
happened is the users keyed into a flds that they were not meant to. I have 
tried using the data transfer off the client access session. I have also tried 
using the data transfer option on the speadsheet itself. Neither works. 
Hope this makes sense.....

Is there a way to prevent this???
