BRMS does provide a way to recover to a check point, with or without
"save while active" .... if .... you coordinate your backup with ending
interactive users (done through an option inside BRMS) and ending
certain subsystems (done through user built CL program easily installed
in a BRMS user exit).

Does the BRMS provide you with a way to recover to a check point. My
issue with not using the MAPICS backup is files changing while others
are being accessed and updated.

It will save you considerable "down" or "dedicated mode" time. When you
consider that there is another step, and that is taking the disk save to
tape.... it takes the same amount of the operator's time.

At our shop, we're very pleased with BRMS (IBM's licensed product
5722-BR1). This product, combined with a few CL programs that end some
subsystems, hold up the unattached jobs, perform a save-while-active,
save changed objects, bring every back to life again, keeps our downtime
to an absolute minimum.

I'm assuming a backup to disk will save me considerable time vs. backup
to tape. Thoughts?

I know that there is an option to backup to disk using the MAPICS
backup. Is there a way to do a backup to an external storage (NAS or
Windows file share) using some option or redirection of the normal
backup.

thanks
