I agree. You can't share your production library to test PTFs anymore. Since MAPICS is now allowing for file, screen, report changes at the PTF level instead of the release level, they had to modify the PTF process to handle installing those objects. So.. You should now have the following environments: Production (Obviously) Test (Using production programs - This is to test scenarios only) PTF Test (A complete environment with AMALIB and AMXLIB) Can also be used to test a PCM upgrade as well. Well, DASD is getting cheaper.. :-) Michael Franchino Custom Systems Corporation 334 Sparta Ave Sparta, NJ 07871 973-726-0202 X214 973-726-4552 Fax http://eax.cussys.com -----Original Message----- From: mapics-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mapics-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Sansi, Jim Sent: Wednesday, December 29, 2004 5:12 PM To: MAPICS ERP System Discussion Subject: RE: Discussion on Applying PTFs Apply a MAPICS PTF (even temporarily) to production environment? I don't know aboot that. That's why I have a copy of the production environment for testing PTFs and the like, if it works then I schedule to bring it over into the live environment. -Jimmy -----Original Message----- From: mapics-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mapics-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of meyno Sent: Wednesday, December 29, 2004 10:29 AM To: MAPICS-L SUBMIT Subject: Discussion on Applying PTFs Applying fixes I thought was easy and clean. After down loading, apply to a testPTF library and test the fix. Apply permanently later. If the fix blew up, remove it from the testptf library. This could be done anytime and a dedicated system was not required. I quess this has all changed. Now we have to apply to the testptf library but immediately apply permanently or errors could occur. Everything happens under the covers now. and of course you need a dedicated system to apply permanently. We no longer have the capability to test a fix before permanently applying. This stinks and someone will get burned, do we trust MAPICS 100%. _______________________________________________ This is the MAPICS ERP System Discussion (MAPICS-L) mailing list To post a message email: MAPICS-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/mapics-l or email: MAPICS-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/mapics-l.
