Weston,

First of all, you may not want to process operations in sequence because this
forces you to complete operations in sequence. If you have multiple operations
open at the same time, they have to be completed in the sequence they are
entered even if they are actually completed in some other sequence. This has
nothing to do with how the system schedules the order.

You need to define your operation times in the Routing file and the queue times
in the Work Center (Production Facility) file. When you open a mfg order, say
"yes" to routings and the system will calculate operation lead times based on
the Routing and Work Center files. Be aware that lead times are in days and
that if your standard times are less than one day, the total lead time could be
less than a day. Make sure that the time basis codes in the routing file are
correct so that the lead times by operation are calculated correctly. Backward
scheduling should be okay, realizing that the system could calculate a start
prior to the current date.

I hope this helps. There is a CD for MAPICS/XA that contains all the manuals
for the system. There is a Rel. 4 version and a Rel.6 version. They are in
PDF format and are an excellent resource for determining what MAPICS is doing
and how to set up your system to do what you want.

Subject: START TIMES ON MO'S

Hello group.
Ok, This is going to sound trivial .
As I have mention, before we are in the process
of re-aligning our mapics processes. Or I should say
in the process of matching our bussiness processes to
mapics. We have allot of work arounds that we want to
do away with.
Anyway, we want to take advanage of the MO operations scheduling
that mapics is capable of , i.e. We want mapics to tell us when to start a
operation
within a MO. I have the in the test environment, gone into Tayloring for
PCC.
Have set Backard Scheduling to YES as well as Process Shop activily in seq.
to
Yes. However when I did a test MO, I still got the Start Dates matching the
Completion
Dates. Do we need to load the lead time for the opearations mannally?
And where would we do that?

Thanks

Weston Wheat
