Try playing with font size on the bar code, the scanner won't care how big the actual label is as long it can get it in one sweep. We found larger printing eliminated problems with dirt and smudges as well as making them scannable from farther away. Kinda changes the signal/noise ratio. RFID isn't feasible this year but will become a project too soon. This is a self-imposed problem. We wrap most of our finished goods on the pallet it will ship on. The person doing the wrapping is not necessarily the material handler who locates the inventory. We currently have what we call a 'move' ticket on the pallet that has the MO number, the carton quantity and the number of boxes. QC also stamps this 'move' ticket. We plan on eliminating this ticket. We prefer not to have the fork-lift operator hop off and cut the wrap to scan. Dale - Had to google CCD scanner (charged-couple device) to see what it is. We actually use them for a different application but they are tied to a PC. Do they come in 'wireless' versions? And if so, does anyone recommend a brand?
