Eric, I'd be surprised if anyone would take offense to that stuff (I know I didn't). And the spreading of information that isn't readily available to all of us is what this thread is all about! You are correct - if I was a user of EAX (which I've never heard of before) and it worked well for me, I'd be recommending it to others on this thread, like I do COM_Net, Cornerstone Communication's Unifier, and Electronic Storage Corp LaserVault. As it turns out, I am a long-time user of COM_Net (I think we were the 2nd company up on it), and it has worked very well for us, as should be apparent to people that read my postings on it. We use it to accomplish a great deal with our customers beyond what it is initially designed for (I will be talking about that at the MUC this year) without modifying COM_Net at all. What I was quite bothered about was that someone would be sold a package that would not meet their initial requirements without knowing it - period. I have been quite fortunate in having reputable, honest sales reps that have been quite up front with me on limitations of the software I have acquired. (Incidentally, I am a former S/A customer, and almost bought MMA. After careful review, I determined that MMA wouldn't be effective.) I think disreputable sales representatives who only care about getting the initial sale do more harm for their software than bad code and/or bugs will ever cause. I'm always careful to get several demos and speak to references whenever possible before I purchase a new module; exceptions being when I am one of the 1st to use the module. Then I get written assurance of satisfying requirements. I replied to make the customer aware that , even though MAPICS does not want you to know about it, there are other solutions for products that may compete with what they offer. EAX is one of those products. I am sure if Dale at FFT had seen EAX before COM_Net, he may be praising their products as well. But now that the door is open regarding Strategic Partners, just because their products are "certified", it does not mean that they may have the best solution to offer. The affiliate is going to recommend a product that will give them the best bang for their buck (Commission). It also does not mean that the Strategic Partner will be one forever (this is not the case with Lexel since the have many products). Just ask anyone who purchased MMA from Silvon, Wisdom or the MAPICS Portal to name a few. Their companies were once Strategic Partners, their products were sold and eventually the partnership was broken. For those customers expecting to see these other great 3rd party products at the upcoming conference - unless the vendor is a Certified Solution Partner ($$) - you will not be privy to experience those products at the Tech expo. Eric P.S. I hope I did not open up any old wounds with the MMA, Wisdom or Portal comment. _______________________________________________ This is the MAPICS ERP System Discussion (MAPICS-L) mailing list To post a message email: MAPICS-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/mapics-l or email: MAPICS-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/mapics-l.
