I too merged two companies while using MAPICS DB a long time ago. I would not want to try it using XA. Consider keyed files which have the company number as part of the key. When you switch all your company 2 records to be company 1 you may get duplicate key errors. Does company 2 use a different set of order numbers, invoice numbers, customer numbers, etc. that are entirely different from company 1? There are so many other fields that need unique numbers that I would not even attempt this merge. Perhaps at conversion time make a copy of your production environment and freeze it. Use it only for historical retrievals. Merge company 2 accounts into the other environment as new accounts. You may have to give some of them new numbers. This way there can be no conflicts. After about 1 year or 2 most users will have no need to access the frozen environment. It could be saved to tape and removed. THis is a big job. Especially with COM. I did something like this in the old OE&I days. Something to watch out for is Dulicate customer no between the 2 companies. Might want to consider using offline load options where and when available. And don't forget any side systems and custom code you may have. Good luck Pete Olshavsky Ind Mapics Programmer/Systems Analyst Phil Brewer <philbrewer@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Hi All, I'm new to this list and new to Mapics too. Where I work use Mapics V6, COM, CAS, PUR, IM .... We are in the process of installing IFM, we currently use CODA as our financial package. Currently one of our environments has two companies 1 and 2. It has been decided that, before installing IFM, these companies need to merge i.e. all company 2 customers etc. will become company 1 and then company 2 will disappear. Has anybody else ever done this ? Any tips ? Is it feasible ? My current thinking is that i will have to manually change the company number from 2 to 1 on _every_ file that has a company field on it......not a simple task.
