We converted to IFM from Mapics Accounting Management A/P and G/L in June 2002.
We converted to COM from a Legacy A/R and OE system in Dec 2002. We entirely
re-vamped the chart of accounts from Mapics Accounting Management to a new
chart of accounts in IFM. We converted all the customer numbers from the
legacy A/R system either to new or existing numbers within Mapics. We did not
convert history, just open invoices and orders and of course the G/L balances.
Our old legacy systems data, and the Accounting Management data is still there
for detail inquiry.

Two situations to be aware of:
1. Customer Joe Smith is in both company 1 and 2 but with two different
customer numbers.
2. Customer number 12345 exists in both company 1 and 2, but they are two
completely different customers.

We created two cross reference files. One for old cust# to new cust# and
another for old GL account# to new Units/Natures. These were used to convert
legacy data into the offline load and LSB (Legacy System Bridge) files for
processing into COM and IFM.

Security is a big thing in COM and IFM, and is completely separate from the
normal Cross Apps setup. I recommend setting security up in the initial
stages and fine tune it throughout testing so that go-live can be as smooth as
possible.

Users need to be available for serious testing and desk checking of data. This
is their system and they must take ownership of it up front. We performed
several test conversions and the users were responsible for balancing the
converted data and testing the new system.

We used two different consulting groups (one local and one not) to help with
the two different conversion projects, both of which we would highly recommend.
We would never have attempted to perform these big conversions without expert
help. However, recently we have done a mini conversion of sorts because we
know the systems and feel comfortable now.

Subject: Merging Companies

Hi All,

I'm new to this list and new to Mapics too.

Where I work use Mapics V6, COM, CAS, PUR, IM ....

We are in the process of installing IFM, we currently use CODA as our
financial package.

Currently one of our environments has two companies 1 and 2. It has been
decided that, before installing IFM, these companies need to merge i.e.
all company 2 customers etc. will become company 1 and then company 2 will
disappear. Has anybody else ever done this ? Any tips ? Is it feasible
?

My current thinking is that i will have to manually change the company
number from 2 to 1 on _every_ file that has a company field on it......not
a simple task.

Thanks,

Phil
