Hi Dale, Well, I already paid a while back, and as I said, I was able to justify it at the time. I rolled it into an upgrade, adding a LOT of new modules, plus the conversion. The actual cost in that move wasn't too bad. Would I be upset that I paid and now it's cheaper? Not really - no different than if I bought something full price and then saw it on sale a couple months later. Happens with my disk upgrades for the iSeries all the time, and don't get me started on PC servers. I get disappointed that I didn't wait, but hey - it happens. But I think a roll-over plan would definitely be a good thing, and make it easier for companies to upgrade if this would happen. We have this in our local MAPICS User Group, too. It's kept some companies stuck on earlier versions. And one of them is a very effective user that I get ideas from regularly - they would definitely benefit. I think it would DEFINITELY be in MAPICS' best interest to do something like that. It'd help them get people up to current levels, too. As I understand it, they really want everyone to move up to R6, at least. That would help the loyal IT folk justify the upgrade. Hmmmm, there's a thought for MAPICS that may make it more palatable - offer the conversion to user-based for free during an upgrade process to R6 or R7, a nominal charge otherwise. I'd just have another Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster, and then I wouldn't care that I paid full sticker price. Maybe Dick Cook should offer a Pan-Galactic MAPICS Blaster at the mixer at the beginning of the MUC.... :) Dale Gindlesperger IT Manager/Special Projects Leader Fleetwood Folding Trailers, Inc. 258 Beacon Street Somerset, PA 15501 "Walker, Dale" <DWalker@automaticpr To: "MAPICS ERP System Discussion" <mapics-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> oducts.com> cc: Sent by: Subject: RE: From the Believe or Not Department at MAPICS... mapics-l-bounces@mid range.com 02/16/2004 11:14 AM Please respond to MAPICS ERP System Discussion Dale, I second your suggestion about the rollover license idea to user-based pricing for a no-charge, or nominal charge. That way those companies that have already taken it in the shorts to pay for the conversion will get HUGE refund checks. Oh....wait a minute....I was dreaming again... I think a reasonable thing to do would be just to offer everyone a rollover to user-based pricing for no charge, or a nominal charge. Then as they add more applications (or users), charge per seat. That's how an awful lot of software companies do it. Of course, you have to look at the per seat charges also. If you have two people working in A/P, why pay for 120 seats? The cost needs to be reasonable that way, also. Someone at Mapics should start doing something before there is no more Mapics customers. As you can see Mapics, customers are going to other softwares and by inhibiting customers for growing to larger iSeries hardware Mapics is digging their grave and committing suicide to the Mapics product line. It is sad that Mapics Management has lost sight of reality and the needs and expectations of their customers. Steve -----Original Message----- From: John C.
