Thanks Ann you have been immensely helpful. Running a back up of the test
environment is a great idea.

My vendor mentioned something about an upgrade in order to use the extended
length tapes also. I'll look into it.

Bryan,

We try not to mix the green and red during one MAPICS backup, but believe we
have used a mixture with no problems. Do you have a test environment you
could backup during the day? Our tape density for the MAPICS backup
settings is *FMT3570E and this works for red and green both. We don't
remember if that setting made a difference on how many tapes or not. But
the red definitely will hold more data.

We are also remembering our IBM CE came out and put on an upgrade to our
Magstar to be able to use the red tapes. We think it was free, but can't
remember for sure. We had our Magstar before the red tapes were available,
so do not know if yours would need the upgrade or not.

As to your question about the reply list. It looks to me that the entry...
20 RPG0000 D *YES *NONE
would answer any RPG error messages and you would not get to even see that
they happened. I personally would add the CHGJOB to the CL, but that is me.
One line of code.

Yet another option is to add a job to the scheduler to CHGJOBD
AMFLIBx/AMJOBD to use the reply list after work hours (this way the backup
will use it) and another entry to change it back at 6am (or whenever) to
*RQD so you will get any error messages during the day.

Thanks Ann! We have been using the green tapes. Our compression and
compaction is the same as yours. We use two tapes nightly to back up about
45 gb. About 40 of that is MAPICS and the rest is in-house stuff.

I just talked to my vendor who said there is only a $13 in difference
between the red and green, due to some price hikes on the green.

Can I use the red and green interchangeably on the 3570 without changing any
settings? We use *DEVTYPE for tape density.
