I recently managed after years of trying to have mapics take this (again)
as
an enhancement request. My hope is they consider it high enough on the
priority list to withold it in the 'will be done first' list. It can get
there if enough people support this enhancement request, so you know what
you'll have to do: ask for it too in an official way

I submitted as a request a whole 'outside operations support' set (8
points)
and not just one function. These (I believe) cover the whole track of :
    - releasing the PO, and keeping them referenced
    - support blanket PO's and contracts
    - seeing it in MRP, even if you reschedule the MO,
    - a user hook for printing shipping papers,
    - receiving it and at the same time logging transactions against PO
and
MO,
    - ...

Mind you, you may have to ask twice.

Wish us luck guys, and keep MAPICS the functionally richest package

Kris

We are using Paperless - Power Builder solution. What do not like is the

Robert,

We created our own using Symbol PDA's and the mocha pda
emulator. We dump the transactions into an offline file
and process multiple times during the day. Using the
emulator allowed us to add in alot of custom error checking
that MAPICS did not provide. Do note that offline support
was never really finished. OFFTRN has all the necessary
fields but the RPG code limits the transactions accepted.

Other solutions:

>You can also do the same basic thing in Java or VB running
on a PDA into offline.

>You can use the PMC transaction file to become more realtime,
just need to edit better and of course have PMC.

>You can also use the PDA screens in PLMC (Paperless) to do
similar transactions but we have not explored that option.
I believe it supports receiving in pur and shipping in com.

The biggest downside to all solutions is the barcoding and
what to barcode. Printing is a problem for users in general
and wireless printing is an even bigger problem... But it can
be overcome you just need to think about what are the base
requirements and what type of flexibility do you require.

Regards

Konrad

Joan, et al

We are concerned about the Engineering Drawing (we store the revision)
number appearing on the P.O. for QS9000 procedures. By using a second item
number ("machining"), this is not possible except to manually key it in the
extended description, which is error prone.

Is anyone handling Outside Processing, using the "real" item number with an
operation no? or any other solution that prevents doubling the on order and
receipt quanitities, etc. yet preserves the item number integrity?

PS: Obviously, we do NOT have EPDM.

PS It goes without saying (I hope) that you issue the PO for the service
being performed, not for the finished (or WIP) end item. I.e. we issue the
PO for "machining," not for the item being machined. We put what item is
being sent (item # and brief description) in the PO extended description
fields, and the MO number and operation in the appropriate PO line item
fields...

What releases of MAPICS will it be available for? Can you give us an
outline of how it will work?

Dear MAPICS Customers,

This enhancement is in testing now and should be available by the end of

the month. Look for the closure of APAR 62694 through the E:Info
notification system. We will also announce the closure through our
Support Enhancement Informational, SH14371.

Regards,
John Navarre, CPIM
Manager, Customer Support

Kris -

Congratulations! At the MAPICS User's conference, your request was
placing
second in the voting (#1 was setting a recurring schedule of the MAPICS
backup so you set it once and forget about it) the last time I checked!
That
should tell MAPICS support that more people than just you want/need this
mod!

I recently managed after years of trying to have mapics take this
(again)
as
an enhancement request. My hope is they consider it high enough on the
priority list to withold it in the 'will be done first' list. It can
get
there if enough people support this enhancement request, so you know
what
you'll have to do: ask for it too in an official way

I submitted as a request a whole 'outside operations support' set (8
points)
and not just one function. These (I believe) cover the whole track of :
    - releasing the PO, and keeping them referenced
    - support blanket PO's and contracts
    - seeing it in MRP, even if you reschedule the MO,
    - a user hook for printing shipping papers,
    - receiving it and at the same time logging transactions against PO
and
MO,
    - ...

Mind you, you may have to ask twice.

Wish us luck guys, and keep MAPICS the functionally richest package

Kris
