I was in a similar situation at our company.  We weren't running two
companies, but we were doing some funky things with factory/materials
planning/scheduling that required two environments for our company.  I
started out with two separate, full environments (MM and BB).  In order to
save disk space, we changed to a shared application library, ending up
with an MM and MB environment.  I can tell you that there was no
difference to us in using that, as far as production went.

However, I recently moved back to two completely separate environments.
The only reason I did that was so I would have the opprotunity to have
different applications running at the different levels in the two
environments.  In other words, increased flexibility within the company.
And licensing is not an issue with that, either.

In summary, you get more options with two full environments, and you save
disk with a shared application library.  Note: you still have to upgrade
both environments either way on PCMs or Release upgrades.

For a couple years two divisions/sister companies have tried operating out
of one MAPICS environment, but as two different accounting companies.
However, mixing the item masters between these completely unrelated groups
has proven problematic over time. Therefore we are planning to create a
duplicate environment and assign one company to each, and work to delete
unneeded information (items, history, etc.) from each over time.

My question: should I share the existing AMALIBx & AMXLIBx libraries with
the new environment, or create a new set of all four MAPICS libraries? I
will be using the MAPICS create program, but I am looking for input on
creating an AB environment from XY, or just an XZ environment.

What are your thoughts and experiences?
