RE: Multiple Environment Question

Patrick - I just created two new environments this weekend.   Before I had
an AA and TT (test) environment.  Now we have AA, AB, AC, TT.    There is no
reason not to share the program library AMALIBx.    For a test environment
it is best to have a separate program library.  Then you can upgrade that
one to the next release for testing when it is time to upgrade.

Please note that during the create environment process a working copy of the
environment is made and then the new environment is created from that save.
At the end of the process you actually have 3 times the file space used.
The work copy is then deleted and you are back to 2x the file space of the
original environment.  This is significant only when you have limited disk
space.

For a couple years two divisions/sister companies have tried operating out
of one MAPICS environment, but as two different accounting companies.
However, mixing the item masters between these completely unrelated groups
has proven problematic over time. Therefore we are planning to create a
duplicate environment and assign one company to each, and work to delete
unneeded information (items, history, etc.) from each over time.

My question: should I share the existing AMALIBx & AMXLIBx libraries with
the new environment, or create a new set of all four MAPICS libraries? I
will be using the MAPICS create program, but I am looking for input on
creating an AB environment from XY, or just an XZ environment.

What are your thoughts and experiences?
