Why pay $1000? DFU is free with your AS400. DSPFILE is free with MAPICS. MAPICS IM CS transaction as you stated works and is free. I'm sure there are more free ways of changing the STDUC. We do it regularly (and automatically) with a simple RPG program. You don't have to buy an App to get the job done. The lady I spoke to at ProData was not a technical support person. Our company does not have a maintenance contract with them so I was only able to get limited information, such as: 1. Version 5.0 can be download off the Internet for a fee and maintenance contract setup charge (both apx. $1000) and it's available for both CISC & RISC systems; and 2. New version 6.0 won't work on our old CISC IBM AS/400 model. I have our copy of the 1993 DBU User Guide and I can't seem to find information about field size limitations in there. It's a rather "techi" written manual and most of it is over my head. In discussions with our Info Systems person, he reminded me that the STDUC field is probably editable using the Mapics File Maintenance screen. I checked there and I get an error message, "Cursor in protected area of display" on the Item Balance File Maintenance screen (AMI7A5). I looked on the Help screen and it says in part, "If you are changing a record and chose Transaction History during application tailoring, you cannot change this field. You must use a Standard Cost Replace (CS)transaction." Can you tell me the specific IM (or other Mapics module) tailoring question they are referring to? I think that I will end my attemps to use DBU to edit the STDUC field. Instead, I will opt to use the CS Inventory Transaction entries as suggested by the Help screen above. I appreciate all your assistance and I look forward to hearing from you again at your convenience.
